Exploring Highlands: The Place You Want To Raise Your Family

Exploring Highlands in Denver Colorado

Denver is growing quickly as thousands of people pour into the city every week. For those new to Denver, it can be hard to know where to live. That is why I am creating this guide to the different neighborhoods of Denver. In this post, we discover the best parts of the Highlands, a neighboorhood north of Denver.

Hogshead Brewery

Hogshead Brewery

Highlands is primarily a family neighborhood, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still have fun. Hogshead Brewery may be smaller, but it has all the charm and friendliness you would expect in Denver. It is an easy walk down 29th street, so you can leave the car at home.

Alamo Draft House

Alamo Draft House

Even if you aren’t into movies I would recommend a visit to the Alamo Draft House. This dinner theater is one of the best I have ever attended. They have modern movies as well as fun older movies. $7 will get you an unlimited bowl of popcorn and the food is pretty good as movie theaters go. (They also have a pretty fun bar if you want to meet a date earlier for a drink)

Some will argue that the Alamo Draft House is located in Sloan Lake, but I had to add this to the list because it is so cool. I found it was a nice 2 mile walk from my home in the Highlands to this movie theater.

Salt & Grinder

Salt & Grinder

32nd Street is the best place to get dinner in the Highlands area. There are a ton of restaurants, almost too many to choose from. I had a burger and beer at Salt & Grinder and was not let down. Make sure to explore this street and get a burger while you are at it.

Taqueria La Familia

Taqueria La Familia

Taqueria La Familia is one of those places that the locals will curse me for exposing. This tiny Mexican restaurant only has 4 tables but makes some of the best tacos in Denver. It’s not unusual to see a line out the door of this little restaurant.

Do your self a favor and get yourself some food from Taqueria La Familia when you visit the Highlands.

Kyle’s Kitchen

Kyle's Kitchen

This little diner is one of the last holdouts from an older Highlands. Don’t be surprised when you are served by Kyle herself. The food is delicious, and really hits the spot if you had a bit too much to drink the night before.

Cool fact about Kyle’s Kitchen: Locals have their own coffee mugs!

Williams & Graham

Williams & Graham

Williams & Graham is the last bar/restaurant to make this list. Arguably the best Speakeasy in Denver, you should definitely check this place out. If you visit during Monday –  Thursday you can make reservations, otherwise its first come first serve.

I recommend arriving early as this place isn’t exactly a secret. You could find yourself waiting a while for a table.

Whichever adventure you find best for you, good luck and happy adventuring!
