Tuft and Needle Mattress Review

Firmness and support

The Tuft and Needle mattress receives a 7 out of 10 on our firmness scale. It seems like most mattress in a box companies are trying to hit this medium level of firmness. We assume it allows them to reach a larger audience with the one mattress, instead of going too hard or too soft.

Anyone looking for a specific feel should keep looking. If you are a side sleeper, we recommend checking out the Nest mattress. Back sleepers should check out the Leesa, which has a high level of firmness.

The actual feel of the mattress is hard to put our finger on. It didn’t feel hard or soft, just some vague middle ground. Our testers did find that they got used to the feel after a while, but not a good first reaction.

Sinkage

This mattress actually did good job when it comes to sinkage in our Tuft and Needle mattress review. The mattress itself suits for people who weight between 130-200 + pounds. It maintained and supported our testers bodies, while not putting pressure anywhere specific. If you are lighter than that, you may not exert enough pressure to take advantage of the firmness.

When lying on your side, the mattress sinks about 2 inches. The mattress sunk about 1.5 inches when we were on our backs. If you sit or stand on the mattress the sinkage went to almost 5 inches. The Tuft and Needle Mattress holds up against any significant sinkage.

Tuff and Needle Coolness and Gas.

The Tuft and Needle is one of the cooler mattresses we have reviewed. Though we tend to expect that when dealing with a firmer mattress. It is the softer memory foams that really absorb and hold the heat.

The Tuft and Needle had little to no smell when we unboxed it. A number of the mattress in a box mattresses require a few hours to off gas. Customers should be able to unpack their Tuft and Needle and sleep on it soon after.

Tuff and Needle Mattress Construction

Opening the mattresses is fun part of the Tuft and Needle Mattress review. Tuff and Needle makes their mattress in 2 layers. The layers combine to a height of 10″ and both provide different functions.

Tuff and Needle Mattress construction has 2 layers of foam.
  • Mattress cover

Simple white material that feels pretty thin. Many the other mattresses have a tougher, more sturdy feeling cover. We’re not sure if Tuft and Needle went with the simple white sheet for a reason, or because it was cheaper. Regardless, the cover does seem to get the job done.

  • Top layer

The top layer is a poly foam specifically designed to provide a soft feel to the mattress. This allows the side sleepers to get a bit more comfort.

  • Bottom Layer:

The bottom layer is a support foam that is the foundation of the mattress. This is where you get the real solidity that helps with your back.

Tuft and Needle Promo Codes:

Tuft and Needle have discontinued their discounts for now. Though we would check amazon here as they have surprise discounts every now and then. The Tuft and Needle mattress is one of the cheapest on the market, so don’t let a lack of discount stop you.

Tuft and Needle Mattress Review summary:

For a long time, Tuft and Needle’s price was their claim to fame, but they are starting to get some competition. E-luxury, Leesa and Brooklyn are just a few of the competitors.

We have found that Tuft and Needle make an acceptable mattress. There are a good number of mattresses that are more comfortable. Those have the problem of a slightly higher price point.
